Amaranth is an event independent of Manifest but they work in union to assist each other. This was the second year of its existence with a change of venue, moving to the Docklands.
Where: BlueFire Churrascaria Grill & Bar, Docklands, Melbourne When: September 25th Website: Amaranth info There are very few 'Cosplay Balls' in Australia and Amaranth is the only one tied into a convention. It is held on the Thursday night before Manifest and provides, what I can describe, as a prom night experience. There is the awarding of a King and Queen along with dance and participation awards. A two course meal (with nibbles before hand) and drinks were included in the entry cost (of $65 for syndicates) with a band performing on the stage. Formal cosplay was recommended but if attendees didn't cosplay, formal dress and a mask were required. It was a beautiful location on the broad-walk overlooking the redeveloped docklands. It was a beautiful night and apart from eating, most people spent their time outside as the venue itself was very cramped and small. This was probably the only down side of the event but the organisers worked well with what they had. King and Queen contest was run almost like a pageant, with no entry into the contest but three people of each gender that judges considered the best being selected out of the audience. A small contest was then held with an audience vote deciding the winner. The other contests were run in a similar way with no formal 'entry' but judges just watching attendees to decide who they thought was the best. The music was of varying types and genres giving a good mix to the dancing styles that people could perform with almost everyone getting involved and enjoying themselves. It was a sold out event and was run very smoothly so the chances of Amaranth continuing into the future are high. Cosplay Picks |
