“Set to be the biggest yet, AVCon 2010 is gearing up to present you with the latest and greatest in anime, video games, and Australian gaming development. We’ve swept the valleys and searched the hilltops to create a convention overflowing with Australia's costuming and artistic talent. No stone has been left unturned as we secure exhibitors, screenings, panels and many other exciting events, to ensure that Adelaide’s AVCon is your one and only destination for an unforgettable 2010.” - AVCon Website
As the website and opening said, AVCon 2010 did indeed go off. One of the best organised events in the country, along with most likely the best venue in the country, AVcon has a lot going for it. ![]() Also for the second year, AVCon was the host of the Adelaide round of the Madman National Cosplay Championship. Five people competed in this round and the contest was very close with Yiji from Melbourne cosplaying Belldandy from Ah! My Goddess coming out the winner.
It was a little sad to see only two of the contestants actually coming from Adelaide, but it was great to learn that Carly who cosplayed Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII (and first costume!), was given a wild card entry to the finals so Adelaide will be represented.
The Sunday contest was very popular with many entrants and with lots of chances to get a trophy in one of the six categories and receive a beautiful trophy!
It is good to see AVCon always trying to push themselves and constantly improve! The future looks bright as they look to the past with the theme of ‘Retro’ for 2011!
